Undergraduate Certificate in Mine Safety Practices and Health

The Department of Mining Engineering administers a certificate program in mine safety practices and health that is open to all students with appropriate prerequisites, which are: geology (GEOL 101) , statistics (STAT 211, STAT 215, or IENG 213) and physics (PHYS 112).

MINE 472S must be completed twice for completion of the certificate. The course is connected to the Mine Rescue competition team which completes during both fall and spring semesters.

Upon completion of the certificate, students are expected to:
- Comprehend the fundamental principles of surface and underground mining and related best safety and management practices.
- Develop skill sets necessary to create a safe and healthy working environment through safety and health training applicable in evolving mining industry.
- Build a solid foundation of advanced certifications and training such as EMT training.
- Be prepared for mine emergency response through relevant training and real scenario demonstration.
