Honors In Action Program

Overview

Honors in Action allows you to develop knowledge, skills and competencies through curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular experiential learning opportunities. You will earn badges through Suitable, a student engagement platform, that allows for easy sharing on social media, your resume and personal website.

Honors in Action Admissions Requirements

Current Honors College students may apply for the program during first semester of their sophomore year (have completed between 30 – 59 credit hours) in the Honors Foundations Program. Any other interested students may apply for the program during the second semester of their sophomore year regardless of previous enrollment in the Honors College. Prospective students should have a cumulative GPA 3.4 or higher. Students with a 3.0 - 3.39 cum GPA will be considered with a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member.

Honors in Action Program Benefits

  • Opportunities to deeply pursue projects of academic and personal interest via experiential learning
  • Career readiness preparation
  • Badges and an ePortfolio sharable to online platforms
  • Priority registration for classes before non-Honors students (in their cohort) while actively enrolled in the Honors in Action program
  • Recognition at graduation, on the transcript and on the diploma

Honors in Action Program Requirements

Students will be required to complete a total of five badges. All students must complete the Career Ready Badge and then four additional experiential learning badges of their choice. The multilevel experiential learning badges are available in the themes of Research, Global, Internship, Service, and Creativity. Students in the program will upload evidence of their qualifying experiential learning activity and complete a detailed reflection to demonstrate completion of a badge. Additionally, students will need to meet the following criteria to maintain ongoing requirements for good standing:

  • Take a pre-test when beginning the program
  • Each Fall and Spring semester, and when applying for graduation, maintain an institutional GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Make progress toward the completion of badges each semester with specific attention on the Career Ready badge.
  • In the final semester, complete HONR 451 Honors in Action Summative Experience. Students who do not meet these requirements will be placed on probation in the program for up to one semester. If the student can achieve good standing during this time, they will be taken off probation. If after the one semester students do not achieve good standing, they will be released from the program. Probationary students do not receive priority registration. Students with a verified violation of WVU's Policy on Student Academic Integrity may be removed from the program and will not be readmitted.
