Multidisciplinary Studies

Multidisciplinary Studies Program

The Multidisciplinary Studies program (MDS) in the University College comprises three related minors. WVU is partnering with Community & Technical Colleges to make it easier for students to transfer credits and finish their bachelor's degree online via the BA Pathway program; MDS students may also take coursework on the WVU campus. This program does not limit students to courses of study in a particular area, but rather stresses the importance of breadth of knowledge and cross-disciplinary communication. Students choose three minors instead of one major to design their own degree. MDS emphasizes flexibility and combines specialized knowledge from individual disciplines with a unique ability to approach problems from divergent perspectives. Students learn to apply their minors to real-world experience through a service-learning capstone course and to apply multidisciplinary techniques in communicating the strengths of their self-chosen course of study. Working with an advisor, students select three minors to design a degree that best meets their career goals.

Minors:

Currently there are 18 minors available online and approximately 117 total minors. Minors require the completion of at least nine credit hours at the upper-division level (300-400 level).

Admissions Requirement:

Students who have completed at least 29 earned credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of a 2.0 or better are eligible for the program.
